Arsenal are eyeing a summer transfer for VfL Wolfsburg defender Fagner, who has been a sensation since his move to the Bundesliga in July.
Though yet to win a full international cap for Brazil, Fagner has leapt into many analysts’ thoughts as one of the leading candidates to replace Dani Alves in the long term for the Selecao.
With no appearances for Brazil to his name yet, it could be tricky for Arsenal to acquire a work permit for 23 year-old Fagner, but given his form this season he could be granted dispensation as a special talent - as they received for Ryo Miyaichi.
Fagner has proven himself to be a top class right back, with tackling, positioning, and interception three of his strong points - perhaps unlike his compatriot at Arsenal Andre Santos.
Fagner can also get forward to immense effect, and his dribbling is comparable to that of some of the greatest Brazilian full backs.
With just eighteen months remaining on the deal of Bacary Sagna, and the Frenchman indicating his restlessness in interviews this season, there could well be a need for a replacement.
Carl Jenkinson has performed admirably in Sagna’s absence, but additional cover is likely to be required, and Fagner could well be that man.
